Comfort Station

Point Lookout State Park, Scotland, MD

Project Synopsis

This project provided a visitor comfort station and associated access road and parking lot to an underserved area of Point Lookout State Park. The project provides facilities for patrons of the Fort Lincoln Day Use Area within the park. Because the project location was near wetlands, it was deemed an environmentally sensitive site and required conservation efforts to mitigate hazards associated with building close to the wetlands. These efforts included re-forestation to enhance the wetlands and the park’s natural ambience, and the donation of funds to an environmental conservation group. The comfort station is a small gem of only 600 sf in the woodland with a design that utilizes natural daylight and the installation of occupancy sensors reduce electrical light consumption. In addition, waterless urinals in the men’s rest area support.
