Krasnow Institute
Project Synopsis
The Krasnow Institute conducts neuroscience research on the causes and potential cures for neurological diseases and disorders such as Alzheimer’s and Epilepsy. The Krasnow Institute’s existing building was poorly configured and lacked sufficient stability for high resolution microscopy and the physical manipulation required for electrophysiology research. In addition, it was served by inadequate MEP systems and had no vivarium. To address these issues, LSY’s design provides a three-story addition which was completed in two phases.
The Phase 1 design included a temporary exterior wall on one facade in anticipation of the Phase 2 addition. Phase 2 mirrors the Phase 1 design, doubling the area available for research and allowing the Institute to increase its number of researchers and overall capabilities, as well as the mouse census several-fold.
