NIAID Bioinformatics

Bethesda, MD

Project Synopsis

The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) needed to expand office space to support programs of the Vaccine Research Center, whose mission is to conduct research that facilitates the development of effective vaccines for human disease. The facility is a 13,200 gross square feet temporary modular building that provides office seating for approximately 70 staff to allow for future growth. The space program includes open office space to accommodate work stations in addition to private offices and team rooms.

The project included the necessary site work and infrastructure to support the facility including, but not limited to, utility connections, staff and pedestrian access, structural and MEP/FP systems. Most notably, a bioretention pond was added to the west of the building.

The trailer was clad with two different types of metal panels – a corrugated panel and a smooth panel with horizontal and vertical reveals – with a masonry base wall. The building colors of the metal panels and masonry blend well together and with the surrounding buildings in the immediate location.
