NIH Clinical Center Department of Transfusion Medicine – Blood Collection Facility

Rockville, MD

Project Synopsis

This project relocated the NIH Clinical Center Department of Transfusion Medicine’s Blood Collection (Apheresis) Facility from the Ambulatory Care Research Facility on the Bethesda campus to an existing tenant space in Rockville, Maryland. The design team provided services for the renovation of approximately 3,100 NASF on the 1st floor to accommodate 11 full-time and two part-time staff.

The design team collaborated with the client to design an efficient open space for blood transfusion. The completed facility program consists of a reception, blood collection area, open nurses’ station, processing lab, director’s office, flex office space, and staff pantry along with restrooms.
