University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, Solomons, MD
R.V. Truitt Laboratory
Project Synopsis
This renovation replaced a deteriorated 1970’s aquatic research facility at the University of Maryland’s Center for Environmental Science’s Chesapeake Biological Laboratory in Solomon, MD. The new design is organized into three distinct zones: seawater labs, biological labs and public/personnel support areas including research staff offices.
The biological laboratories are modular and flexible in design utilizing flexible furnishing systems that allow for reorganization of individual areas to meet research needs. Laboratories are equipped with storage areas for field equipment, large scullery sinks for cleaning and preparing samples and equipment, and open areas with overhead power and lighting placement of large tables and apparatus used for experimental setups, necropsies, and other research activities.
