Project Synopsis
Recognized nationally for its expertise in cardiac care, the Pauley Heart Center is comprised of the Divisions of Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery and Pediatric Cardiology. This Center promotes collaboration among faculty from the Departments of Physiology and Biophysics, Internal Medicine’s Division of Cardiology, Pulmonary and Critical Care and fosters the development of innovative methods to effectively repair damaged and diseased cardiac tissue at a cellular, genetic, and molecular level. This project renovated 10,874 sf of existing, outmoded research and office space on the 7th floor of the building. The complex program included state-of-the-art molecular biology wet laboratories, animal procedure areas with CT imaging equipment, and administrative support space. The laboratory suite housed a large, open plan, molecular biology laboratory, tissue culture laboratories, instrument laboratories, and other support laboratories. The animal procedure area included a CT imaging room, large animal surgical suite, rodent surgical room, animal holding room, and procedure rooms. Administrative areas included open office areas, Investigator offices, break room and conference room. The floor plan efficiently created unimpeded workflow between the laboratory and animal areas, while maintaining specific design criteria for both, within a high security zone.
