Suter Science Center
Project Synopsis
The Suter Science Center project consisted of 48,500 sf of renovations to the Chemistry, Biology and Physics Departments, including 13,500 sf of laboratories. Originally constructed in 1968, new HVAC system, fire sprinkler system and restroom upgrades were required throughout the building. The conceptual design for the project was completed under an aggressive schedule, and the design team successfully delivered an early design development package to the construction manager for pricing. The Biology and Chemistry Departments combined have approximately thirteen faculty members and offer approximately seventy-five undergraduate majors and graduate programs. LSY’s role on the project included laboratory and scientific classroom design programming and planning; conceptual design layout including academic and research laboratories, science classrooms, faculty offices and student collaboration spaces; existing laboratory equipment inventory and condition/functionality assessment; specification of laboratory, vivarium and cadaver equipment.
